(Warning, there are subtle spoilers, so please ignore this post if you're intent on watching it. In your face spoilers are labelled, so you're safe there... kinda.)I never even heard of Cloverfield until a few weeks earlier.
I barely remember seeing the teaser when it was attached to the Transformers movie (which is fucking smart). There was no title, only a date, but it did seem very very interesting. However interesting it was, I forgot about it as soon as Transformers started rolling.
I didn't know that there was such a huge follow-up to that teaser online. Would have been great to be a part of that mass speculation on what the fuck the Cloverfield monster really is.
Why I'm suddenly blogging about the entire mythology behind this right now is because I'm highly fascinated.
I just caught the movie last night and although it was pretty short, running at only around 80 minutes, it was the best 80 minutes of my life. I was highly apprehensive about watching this movie, because I am pretty broke right now and I didn't wanna just throw that $10 away. I was glad that I actually gave it a shot.
First movie of the year and all I can say is that every movie that'll be releasing this year will have a tough time convincing me otherwise... Iron Man and The Dark Knight included.

The ending had me so intrigued that I just had to do some research to it. 'Surprisingly', it was the #2 most searched item on Yahoo! that day. There were alot of clues hidden in the movie. I love those. How I wish that it's released on DVD already so that I can watch out for subtle clues and subliminal messages. Did you notice that at Coney Island in the last scene... it opens up with them going up in the ferris wheel... look at the water. If you were sharp enough to notice, there's some activity in the ocean. There was something in the water. Wow... I wonder what it is. Also, I stayed until the end of the credits. There was nothing to see, but there was some static and Rob saying something. I didn't really know what it was or what it meant... but here's an interpretation from another blog:
There is whispering at the end that sound's like Rob saying "Help Us". Someone recorded the audio and played it backwards, and it sounds like he is saying "It's Still Alive"
Ah. Nice.

This may well be the most interesting movie I've ever seen. The first person video camera thing is not really that original, but after the disappointment that was The Blair Witch Project, nobody really came forward and followed in its footsteps. Which is actually a good thing, because it's a really niche kinda genre. Also, the idea of them taping over a used tape is smart too... really filled in the clues as to what happened between Rob and Beth.
I really highly recommend this movie. Hell, I only blog about movies that I highly recommend, so I don't even need to say this. 10 outoffucking 10.
